Whilst we can’t run our regular Volunteer Fairs and give you the opportunity to meet organisations face-to-face at this time, VCH continues to bring you some of the latest volunteering opportunities across the borough.

Whether you can offer your skills for a one-off, specialist role, or want to volunteer more long term, there are loads of ways to support your neighbours across Hackney.

Seeking creatives and facilitators.
Do you have any creative skills that you could share with or teach others? City and Hackney Carers’ Centre and Young Hackney both need volunteers that can help in passing on their knowledge and teaching new skills to our local carers and young people. Anything from arts and crafts, music, acting, singing, gardening or cooking would be welcomed. City and Hackney Carers’ Centre are particularly interested in hearing from people of colour and people from the LGBTQIA+ community that reflect the diversity of Hackney and the people they support. Email [email protected] if you can help.

Are you social media savvy? Experienced in communications and/or research? Lots of charities urgently need help with social media and communications to share the work they are doing. IRIE Mind are seeking a Social Media Volunteer to manage and grow their social media accounts for their new project supporting young Black men aged 18 – 29, and Newington Green Alliance. Organisations are always seeking volunteers with social media experience as well as volunteers with WordPress experience so get in touch at [email protected] if you have either or both of these.

Are you a young black male, aged 18 – 29 living in Hackney or Waltham Forest and want to make a difference? IRIE Mind are seeking a Young Black Men’s Peer Leader and a  Youth Wellbeing Trainer . The team are also keen to find a Researcher to help them in researching the experiences of the BAME community in regards to the pandemic, gain better understanding, and explore what support and services are needed in order to best serve and support the community.

Passionate cook, and knowledge to share? If you are interested in cooking, helping others cook healthy food on a budget, and connecting with people, this is the role for you! Bags of Taste’s cooking and budgeting classes have gone virtual and are looking for Volunteer Cook Mentors for virtual cooking courses.

Have you got a background in fundraising – online, individual giving or in working with trusts and foundations? Hackney Giving is urgently seeking someone with a background in online giving to help them translate their social media activity into donations. City & Hackney Carers Centre is also seeking volunteers to help people who are digitally excluded to apply for individual grants. Get in touch with us at [email protected] if you can help.

Enjoy a natter? East London Cares and Choice in Hackney both need telephone befrienders to support the people they work with. These roles are great as they can be done from home and fit around your other commitments. City & Hackney Carers’ Centre are looking for volunteers to become Story Gatherers, and help them interview their clients about their live history, life under lockdown and the things that are important to them in their homes, which will become part of a new project. Email Angela at [email protected] for more info.
