Volunteer Centre Hackney (VCH) is rallying Hackney residents and organisations to come together to help people cope with the emotional, mental and physical challenges of the Cost of Living Crisis.

Here, you can find opportunities to share your skills, your time, your energy to support organisations providing services around food, warming hubs and social befriending and support. Together, we can help alleviate some of the effects of isolation, hunger and fuel-poverty experienced by our neighbours.

Independent Age
Information Champion

Independent Age provides free and impartial information to people over the age of 65 to help them get the most out of older age. Information Champions help spread the word about Independent Age and local advice services. This could be by distributing information guides in the local community or attending local events with Independent Age resources.

Shoreditch Trust
Community Kitchen Volunteers

If you love food, enjoy sharing with and learning from others in a relaxed environment and have an interest in supporting people to access a nutritious and balanced diet, then these sessions would be a great fit.

AMURT UK
Signposting Volunteer

Join AMURT UK at their hot meal services to share information about and simplified access to additional services offering financial planning, benefits, housing support and advice that beneficiaries may need to get them through these challenging times.

East End Citizens Advice Bureau
Receptionist/Telephone Assessor

Receptionists answer telephone calls and help clients access other advice services in their local area. They also carry out initial assessments with clients when they first contact the bureau, identifying next steps, emergencies and deadlines with the support of the Service Supervisors. Training provided.

Volunteer Centre Hackney
Community Supporters

If you have just 1 or 2 hours to spare, make a difference visiting a Hackney resident who is isolated and in need of some company – for a chat, or a walk in the park. We’re particularly interested in hearing from people who speak community languages such as Polish, Punjabi, Bengali, or Portuguese.

Hackney Showroom
Friday Lunch Club and Warm Hours Volunteer

With a wide range of roles available, from welcoming and serving at the over 60s lunch club, helping children develop a love of literature at weekly kids library to being an extra pair of hands at their larger events, there’s a role for you. Friday morning and afternoon.
